There are multiple different things which can affect the way in which we sleep; some help us get a better night’s sleep, while others can result in a poor one. We were intrigued to find out the facts about how sleep can be affected and what exactly can have an impact on the way we sleep.
The ‘do’s’ for a great night’s sleep
If you’re looking to benefit your sleep in a good way, these helpful tips should hopefully point you in the right direction.
- One excellent way to relax before bedtime in a warm bath. This warmth will help your muscles to relax, and prepare your body for sleep. This can often make it much easier to drift off once you do get in bed.
- Going to bed in the dark is another great way to help your body prepare for sleep. Light is one of the top signs to your body that it is time to sleep. If your room is too light (for example because of light from the street) it’s important to adjust your room to be as dark as possible. Really, once your eyes have adjusted, you shouldn’t be able to clearly make out objects in your room.
The ‘dont’s’ for a great night’s sleep
To ensure your sleep is affected in a negative way, it’s also very important to consider the things you shouldn’t do before bed.
- Avoiding watching TV or using a phone before bed. The light emitted from such devices can cause you to be more alert and awake, making it a lot more difficult to drift off to sleep.
- Watching what you eat and drink before bed will also help improve your sleeping. Don’t drink coffee or alcohol right before bed as this can also wake you up, making you more alert and less relaxed, causing you to battle with trying to sleep.
